I am 31, hurt, angry, betrayed, cheated but yes........... I am finally fully awake. Today I promise to myself I will not allow any more corrupt, vision less and selfish people to direct my emotions and obstruct the development of our country. They have divided the country based on caste, creed, region, language, religion and on numerous other lines. All this to get a few extra votes............and then gorge on the tax payers money.
Hence I propose a movement within the legal parameters of the country which would allow us, THE EDUCATED CITIZENS to unite across state boundaries, and help the voters in every constituency to vote for the most capable candidate irrespective of the political party of the candidate. Till date we, THE EDUCATED CITIZEN have been the leaders in voicing opinions, but without being able to convert them into action.
Today, we have the opportunity to channelise this intellectually rich and never ending energy into a self feeding system which certainly would produce leaders instead of politicians at the end of an election. If you are still not convinced why this movement is required read the points covered in the next few paragraphs.
The politicians refuse to be accountable. They frame and handle policies which effects the life of the CITIZENS and Infrastructure of the country...........BUT YET REFUSE TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE in case anything goes wrong. Churn the 61 years of Independence and see what the kaleidoscope has to offer.
A city may have 6 lane roads with Metro plying side by side in sharp contrast to a small town where the road itself would be a folklore - We do not question !
The Not-so-rich who suddenly turn Politician ,with equal suddenness acquire loads of money to be declared as "Gifts" - We do not question !
Equality of caste and creed gets tossed aside with the caste based divisions like Mandal Commission - We do not question !
For every act of terrorism committed in the country, instead of sprucing up own act and preventing a repeat, the Politicians abuse Pakistan - We do not question !
The whole country loves President Abdul Kalam but he had to move out of office to give way to someone who is there by the virtue of what she is not going to do rather than what she has already done/will do - We do not question !
Making money vanish meant for fodder of cattle to stealing money meant for victims of Natural Disaters - We do not question !
Thousands killed over a span of few months and Politicians say its a minor issue .........and going beyond that .... humiliating the family of a martyr - Enough is enough !
THE BLIND WILL LEAD US NO MORE
Powers of the Service Chiefs has been diluted over a period of time and the Police force have been made toothless - All this to make the Politicians and the Bureaucrats seemingly more secure and powerful in the hierarchy..............but at what cost ?............Obviously at the cost of diluting the standards of our external and internal security.
The Concept : The ISI mark on electrical goods is a sign of certification that the item has passed all the quality tests and is safe to use.
The Proposal : Under CITIZEN GOVERNANCE, we THE EDUCATED CITIZENS, give a similar stamp of approval to the candidates at each constituency. Like the ISI mark we associate with only capable candidates. The capability of any candidate would be measured in terms of education, work experience, achievements, police record and other such information. All parameters would be quantified and the stamp of approval would be decisive and not opiniated. This would require through research about the candidates, proper use of RTI and authentication from local volunteers. All candidates achieving the requisite approval marks would be highlighted as such. The caste of the candidate would never be mentioned and in case of more than one candidate from a constituency achieving the approval mark, all of them would be highlighted as CITIZEN GOVERNANCE APPROVED CANDIDATE.
The aim of this movement is :
1. To keep criminals and history charge sheeters from joining politics.(deny a win at least)
2. Choose leaders and not politicians in elections.
3. Encourage people to vote for individuals rather than for parties.
4. To unite the educated citizens to create a voice that cannot be ignored.
5. Reward accountability amongst politician to encourage accountability amongst them
This is just a passion as of now. The idea is yet to be formulated. Suggestions are welcome to transform this into a working model. We also look forward for volunteers who can help us in various fields eg: lawyers.IT professionals, Police personnels etc. We need all those people who think that WE DESERVE BETTER.
